I don’t get it…

I was having a conversation with some of my coworkers today, about the amount of disgustingly rude and obnoxious people we get in the restaurant. One of them had recently transferred to another department, and she said that she was SO much happier there. You could tell, but also the fact that all the people she got were really nice and not snarky at all. And that got me thinking about how unfair life is, and how unfair people are overall. Everyone of us agreed that people generally treat the people that work in the restaurant like crap, but it’s not just that. It’s people treating people like we’re robots with no feelings or humanity at all. It’s people treating people like they’re above everything and that they deserve puppy dog eyes and special treatment. It’s people that don’t read signs properly and blame everyone else for it. It’s people that get all angry when there aren’t any deep fried chips or nuggets out at 9am coz their kids are hungry. Like….c’mon society. Seriously.

This one lady came in, and got really angry that we’d put gravy on the meatballs. She lets out an exasperated sigh and exclaims in a loud voice: “NO!! NO NO!!! NO!!! IT’S FOR A BAY-BEE!!!” With an emphasis on the BAY BEE. It was pretty funny in retrospect because she had this shocked expression on her face and some fat rolls were jiggling as she got all in a fluster. But my initial reaction was just ‘umm…are you kidding me. You’re kicking up a fuss coz your baby can’t eat gravy but it can eat deep fried chips and greasy meatballs?’ like…wtf?

There’s the people that waste food and are like ‘eh whatever, I don’t care’. A vegan guy came in the other week asking for some vegetables, so I gave him some. There was ONE POTATO on top, that was just touching a few veggies at the top. Then he’s all like ‘oh wait, is the potato cooked in water? Is it in water only?’ and I’m like ‘no, it’s got butter on it’. And then he’s like ‘oh ok well then I don’t want it. Can I get like, a new bowl with fresh veggies please? I’m vegan and can’t eat butter’. And I give it to him, but do these people not realize they are WASTING FOOD?!?!? I thought vegans were like hell greenie and hippie or something. I dunno. But stuff like that annoys me. Maybe its just because I’m not vegan and don’t understand the vegan culture. But seriously…..it’s also the people that change their mind once they order and are like ‘oh I’m so sawwwry…but I’ll take this new plate of food anyway coz I’m indecisive and make people make my order twice!^_^’ when we have to chuck out plates of food that hasn’t even been touched.

Most of all, I really don’t get people that expect something for NOTHING. We get this alot at IKEA, as you’d expect. And when the prices are cheaper, people get EVEN CHEAPER AND NASTIER. Like the people that get all angry when they have to pay extra for salad they pile miles high. Then they act all surprised when they get charged extra at the till. And people who complain and complain about extra charges for sauce or gravy or the sizing portions….this one woman complained about me the other day because I wouldn’t give her extra chips (even though the plate was pretty much FULL). There’s this thing called PORTION CONTROL that some people just can’t understand. And she’s all like ‘geez that’s not very much is it?’ in a really rude and sneerish manner. And it’s moments like these where I just want to scream at them ‘IF YOU DON’T WANT TO LOOK LIKE A CHEAP ASS YOU’D BUY EXTRA CHIPS FOR $3 OR YOU CAN BE HAPPY WITH WHAT’S GIVEN TO YOU AND SIT DOWN AND EAT YOUR GODDAMN FOOD’. But people are people and you gotta learn to deal with it.

Then there’s

  • people that buy a plate of meatballs and expect you to give them like 5 extra plates…
  • people who want more of everything…
  • people who don’t even ACKNOWLEDGE you when you say ‘hi’ or ‘can I help you there?’ (THIS IS ANNOYING.)
  • people who somehow scatter salad all over the floor and bench even though there’s like a ten cm gap between the salad and the bowl
  • people who let their kids run wild and throw food everywhere on the floor, and just leaving it there (seriously, I’d hate to see their kitchens/dining tables at home)
  • people who smoosh muffins/jelly into their seats while sitting on said food (this happens a LOT. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!)
  • people who go to the parent’s corner to discreetly steal small items from boxes
  • people who mess with the tv
  • people who leave random furniture items around that block pathways
  • people who just get up and leave their trays and mess everywhere right in front of you, even though there’s a sign RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM clearly stating ‘please leave your tray here’
  • As above, people who don’t read signs/bother reading anything and ask you where the mugs are
  • people who take a whole stack of napkins, don’t use them, and just leave them with their mess (seriously, you’d think more people would be a bit more environmentally conscious)
  • people who take handfuls of salt/pepper sachets and either 1) scatter them around the table unopened 2)scatter them around the table opened
  • I couldn’t help taking a photo of this because it’s just…absolutely ridiculous. It just doesn’t make any sense!! WHY TAKE SOMETHING IF YOU DON’T NEED IT/AREN’T PLANNING ON USING IT!?!?!?!?! SERIOUSLY!??!?!? WHY!??!!?

Then there’s the paper napkins which people take by the hundred. You should see the stack we collect by the end of the day. Its at least a few inches thick of just unused paper that people take for the hell of it.

People would probably understand more if they worked in a similar situation to mine. It’s just….it really opens your eyes to how incredibly selfish people are. It’s depressing.

Don’t get me wrong, there are the nice people and they make your day so much better. Old people are generally pretty nice, and you can’t help but be nice to them. There was an boy with downs syndrome I helped the other day, and he was the NICEST person I interacted with the entire day.

I just…I don’t understand why people generally act this way. I don’t understand why people are so mean to other people. Do people not get that they can ruin someone’s entire day with just a few actions/words?!

I don’t understand people at all.

So I’m at work. And here’s something that happens a lot…

Someone comes in, gives me a vague description of what they have and what they want for it, buy some stuff and leave.

Then later they come back because it is wrong.

I don’t understand why they don’t just bring in the thing they are having a problem with! If it’s a valve stuck in the ground or something, sure, it’s a bother to remove and I undnerstand. But simple things like a sprinkler or a fitting or something you can easily bring to my store, fucking bring it in!

I just don’t understand the thought process. There’s this one guy that is doing stuff that has come back to the store at least 5 times. He buys something, leaves, then comes back saying it was wrong (the second time he comes back he always brings his little fitting or pipe or whatever he is working on).

WHY NOT BRING THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND SAVE YOURSELF TIME, AND ME THE FRUSTRATION?! I’m not some God damn retic voodoo wizard! Contrary to what you may have heard.

People are so fucking dumb.
